Whatever goes on in the outside world, your bedroom is the haven that you seek at the end of the day. It is where you rest, renew your strength, and escape from the cares of a busy lifestyle. So if your bedroom is not the place of relaxation you’ve always wanted, now’s the time to be creative and design your own room.

Determine the kind of style and theme you want to go with. If you want a chic and trendy room, you can go for a modern minimalist style. If you’re into a cozier and more comfortable look, then a contemporary theme will work for you. If you want classic elegance, then a traditional style will be your choice. You can also have overlapping themes to have a little transitional style going on. However, make sure there is one dominant theme.

Consider your space. This will help you determine your color scheme. You can have neutral colors on your walls so that you won’t have to keep on repainting whenever you opt to change your color scheme or feel like redecorating. If you have a small space, then you can have light-colored furniture, curtains, and sheets. You can use mirrors to make a room appear larger and you can also add lamps and accent lights to bring in more light. A low profile bed with a minimalist design will do much in giving your room an airier look. If you have a large room, you can use darker colors and heavier-looking furniture.

Since your bed is the focal point of your room, make sure that the color scheme of your room is best displayed in your bed linens. Use patterns and colors that will complement your chosen style and add more zest to your space. Now remember to check the quality of your comforters, sheets, and even the bed mattress. Your bed should not only look comfortable, it should also be comfortable.

Use plants, either fresh or artificial, to bring in the lush beauty of the outdoors. If you have a contemporary or modern style, a single long stem flower on a glass vase will do wonders. If you have a traditional style, a flower arrangement will give more decorative value. Add wall décor to give your room more character. Don’t overdo it though; one or two large pieces should be enough.

Reduce the clutter in your room. Add shelves and storage accessories like under-the-bed baskets. Get a bed that also has storage capacity. You will have a better night’s sleep if there’s no mess in your room.

Your own personal taste should determine the direction your design and style will take. Make your bedroom a comfortable retreat, not an extension of your workplace. This way, you’ll really rest and relax in the sanctuary of your own design.
